DAY 13: Favorite Trap/Puzzle?
A few years back I started a campaign thread on the concept of the planes and how they all are pretty closely related. That concept included an artifact that looked very similar to the planar map, but with eyeholes in the center and a few more floating lenses over the artifact. The puzzle around this item was that players went into an old temple and by looking through it they saw different things happening. At first the party didn't try any different lenses and nothing really looked different, but as they changed the lens configuration they found that different things were revealed including changing environments, signs of enemies, and changed inscriptions. The device functions as a way to see into the other planes into the same location where you stand. The true puzzle comes with now what has to happen to stop the evil that is going on in their own plane and how it's affecting other planes.
In terms of a favorite trap, I find that gelatinous cube vents are always fun. Essentially a player that activates the trap opens a gate for a G-Cube to move free from. In order to drop down, the cube must travel down a 10-15' path which takes a little bit of time resulting in the player that triggered the trap to get farther into a room that may or may not have a way out. This means the player has to either fight the cube to go back or get resourceful.
