DAY 7: Favorite Edition?
I have only admittedly played 3.5 edition so this isn't a very hard thing to decide. I've listened to podcasts that play through 4th edition and I don't mind it but it seemed to over-simplify the character and make everyone seem much stronger much quicker. The thing I did like is how they kind of elaborated on the pieces that should go into encounters from a DM perspective. I'm somewhat unfamiliar with D&D Next (5th ed.) but from what I've heard I like how each class now has a little more freedom to them so you can really sculpt a character from a backstory better.
My unfamiliarity probably doesn't do the newer editions justice, but I like many players continue to play in the system they learned to play in because it's simpler and it's what they know. Plus the nice thing about playing in an older system is that there has been time to balance out classes, races, monsters, etc. so the game flows a little better and so there's not as much waiting for expansions and errata to be released.
