DM's Book Club | Of Dice And Men: The Story of Dungeons & Dragons and The People Who Play It

This year I'm making an effort to start reading a little more since I really haven't read much in a while.  As part of that effort, I picked up the book Of Dice and MenThe Story of Dungeons & Dragons and The People Who Play It by David M. Ewalt (not to be confused with a book and movie of a shortened name Of Dice and Men)

Of Dice and MenThe Story of Dungeons & Dragons and The People Who Play It delves into how Dungeons & Dragons got its start from play-test to D&D Next (5th edition).  It also takes a look into roleplaying games in general, but mostly focuses on the creation story of D&D.  It is more of a biographical/informational piece, but by no means does it drag on like reading a biography because Ewalt throws in allegories and short stories that help break up some of the more heavy chapters.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book and I read it (being a pretty slow reader) over the course of a week (about 10-15 hours total).  The book really made me better appreciate D&D and it also made me want to get in my car and drive down to Lake Geneva and just walk around it again (not just for dinner, but to appreciate the history of D&D from it's humble beginnings).

I would suggest reading this book to anyone who has great interest in D&D.
